This will be Donegal Drama Circle’s second David Mamet play, having presented American Buffalo for the Festival in 2017. In China Doll, financial shenanigans are the order of the day as the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright tackles the topical issue of international tax avoidance schemes.

The story revolves around a soon-to-retire New York billionaire, his young fiancée and an aeroplane. Using a complex $5m tax avoidance scam, the tycoon has just bought a luxury jet as a present for his bride to be. Before leaving his office, he takes one final phone call.  The news is not good. The plane has been impounded in Canada for tax violations and his fiancée is being held by Immigration Control. Cue a frantic round of rants and recriminations as the businessman and his assistant try desperately to get the situation under control.

Al Pacino played the role of billonaire businessman, Mickey Ross, during China Doll’s 2015 Broadway run. This Donegal production features senior Donegal Drama Circle actors Conor Friery and Christian Carbin respectively in the roles of Mickey Ross and his assistant, Carson.
