2017 Programme / End of the Line – O’Carroll’s Dance Hall 1957

End of The Line – O’Carroll’s Dance Hall 1957

Written and directed by Maura Logue

Date: September 29
Venue:  Atlantic Aparthotel, Main Street, Bundoran
Time: 9pm /Cost: €10/€8

Part of a weekend of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the last Great Northern Railway train to depart Bundoran Station (2.30pm, September 30, 1957), Maura Logue’s new comedy drama has one eye on the departing train and the other on the lively 1950’s Bundoran nightime entertainment scene. End of The Line recalls a typical night in the life of O’Carrolls Dancehall as the audience mingles with and evesdrops on the goings-on among a cast of characters typical of the era – merry widows, shy bachelors, young bucks and jiving maidens.

After all, it is the Church Roof Fundraising Dance and all of the parish will be there, played with suitable comedic zest by a cast of 15 actors and actresses from Dark Daughter, including Sean McLoone, Emer McShea, Mary Hoey, Regina Fahy, Seamus McHugh and Ann Shannon, with Maura Logue as MC Mazie Maguire.

Audience members are invited to join in the dancin’ to the fine music of Marc Geagan and the Whiskey Tango band. Special guest songstress, Marion Fitzgerald, will add a flourish to the occasion with her rendition of Beautiful Bundoran, a suitably stylish finalé to the proceedings.

The Bundoran Express Railway Heritage Festival takes place in various venues in Bundoran, from Friday – Sunday, September 29 – October 1. For full Programme Details, please see www.discoverbundoran.com/railwayheritage
