DRÁMAÍOCHT & CARNABHAL | THEATRE & CARNIVAL

Guru

Written and Performed by Kevin McAleer.

Date: Saturday, October 5
Venue: Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey
Time: 8.00pm • Cost: €18/€16 (Conc.)

It’s almost fifty years since Kevin (‘Guru’) McAleer first coined the word ‘mindfulness’, and he is still coining it today. His latest stage persona takes the form of a highly enlightened guru, who travels the world giving talks, advanced self-awareness courses and television chat show appearances, to promote his extensive range of self-help bestsellers. His inimitable Advanced Awareness Seminars promise total self-discovery, or your money back. Participants are gently guided to a state of deep relaxation, emptying the mind of all thought, and replacing it with meaningless laughter. An evening of divine light entertainment that’s not to be missed.

The Tyrone-born mystic and comedian will be familar to contemporary Irish and UK television audiences as ‘Boring Uncle Colm’, of the hugely popular Channel 4 comedy series, Derry Girls.  One of the founding fathers of Irish stand-up, his live shows are a masterclass of comic timing and delivery.

“Immaculate mastery of language.” – The Scotsman
