Rita Gallagher got involved in traditional singing in English in the late 1970’s, when she competed at Fleadhanna for several years. She toured Britian and the USA with Comhaltas in the early 1980’s. She cites one of her main influences as the late, great, Paddy Tunney, and is a huge fan of Dolores Keane. She has recorded three albums, Easter Snow in 1997, The May Morning Dew in 2010, and most recently, The Heathery Hills in 2016. Rita was awarded the Gradam na Fleidhe Nua in May, and most recently the honour of Ceannródaí (Bardic Award) from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, in Ennis, in August.

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh is hugely respected a traditional singer and musician from Gaoth Dobhair and a founding member of Ireland’s foremost traditional band, Altan. She has a great store of songs as Gaeilge from the Donegal Gaeltacht and her fiddle playing owes much to the influence of her late father Prionsias Ó Maonaigh as well as to that of many others among the greats of Donegal fiddle playing, including John Doherty, Con Cassidy, the Campbells, Neilidh Boyle, James Byrne and Danny Meehan.

Mairéad has also established a strong solo career in recent years, releasing a debut CD, Imeall, in 2009 Last year she formed a very successful family band, Na Mooney’s, with her brother Gearóid, sister Anna, daughter Nia and nephew Ciarán.
