Shoot The Gear

A New Play by Guy Le Jeune, Theatre Artist in Residence

DONEGAL BAY AND BLUE STACKS FESTIVAL & AN GRIANÁN THEATRE

Date: Thursday Sept. 28 – Saturday Sept 30
Venue: The Fish Auction Hall, The Harbour, Killybegs
Time: 8pm / Cost: €12/€10

Shoot The Gear is a play exploring the shipping industry and way of life in Killybegs, Donegal, Ireland’s largest shipping port. The work has been created in partnership with An Grianán Theatre and facilitated by the Killybegs Fishermens Organisation, whose support of the project has proved crucial in gaining access to, and the trust of, all manner of people from shermen and their wives and families, to buyers and sellers, net makers and menders, boatyard men, harbour staff, factory workers and more.

This is the third in a series of such projects undertaken in conjunction with An Grianán’s Theatre-Artist-in-Residence Programme, which enjoys a countywide remit. Two years ago the Residency explored the life and times of pioneering community development activist and parish priest, Fr. James McDyer of Gleann Choilm Cille. The creative process involves the theatre artist – in this case the writer and theatre maker.

Guy Le Jeune – gathering stories and information from as broad a range of people as possible who have a close and life-defining connection to the subject at hand.

Shoot The Gear will be performed by a multi-talented cast of local Donegal actors, singers, musicians – Fionn Robinson, Louise Connaghan, Orlaith Gilchreest and Ronan Carr. Come along and enjoy a night of original songs, laughter, stories and experiences, drawn from the memories and reminiscences of the shipping community of Killybegs.
