Fantastic Irish Folk and Americana Double Bill
Aoife Scott & Andy Meaney. Damien O’Kane & Ron Block
Aoife Scott, a member of the famous Black family musical dynasty, is one of the hottest names on the Irish Folk music scene. Her 2017 single, All Along the Wild Atlantic Way, knocked Ed Sheeran off the top of the charts before going on to be named Song of The Year at the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Music Awards. Aoife herself was named Best Folk/Trad Artist in the Hotpress Readers Poll of 2021. Her busy schedule has seen her perform throughout the US, UK, Ireland and Denmark this summer and autumn. Aoife’s most recent CD, Homebird, which she recorded in Dublin and Nashville was RTÉ Radio1’s Album of the Week on its release. Guitarist Andy Meaney is Aoife’s regular accompanist and is an accomplished performer and songwriter in his own right.
Damien O’Kane is a virtuoso banjo player and music producer from Coleraine. A founder member of very successful Anglo Irish folk group Flook, Damien now mainly performs, produces and tours with his musical and life partner, acclaimed English folk singer, Kate Rusby.
Fellow producer and banjo maestro Ron Block hails from Southern California. He has been part of Alison Krauss’ Union Station band since the early 90s, picking up a plethora of Grammy and Bluegrass awards along the way. He also performed on the wonderful O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Ron has been collaborating individually with Damien O’Kane and Aoife Scott on various projects over the years – writing, producing and releasing albums with both artists in the recent past.
Ron and Damien’s stunning new CD, Banjophonics, was released this summer.
