The Murray Brothers Quartet, Megan Nic Ruairí

Michael Murray, Saxophone. Conor Murray, Double Bass. David Lyttle, Drums. Phil Robson, Guitar. Megan Nic Rúairí and her Band.

Growing up in Falcarragh, Micheal and Conor Murray found a passion for jazz in their early teens. Later they studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the direction Tommy Smith, performing in many of Scotland’s jazz clubs and with some of the country’s top musicians. Since graduating, they have toured extensively with David Lyttle in the UK and Europe and performed in Ireland with world-renowned UK pianist Jason Rebello, Canadian jazz star Lucian Gray and New York pianist Michael Kanan. Hailed as rising stars of the new generation of Irish jazz, they have attracted praise from The Times, All About Jazz and The Irish Times.

David Lyttle is a high achieving jazz drummer, composer and producer from Waringstown, Co. Down. He was nominated for a prestigious MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Award in 2015, as Best Jazz Act. Regular collaborators include Soweto Kinch, Duke Special, Joe Lovano and Talib Kweli. His most recent project was this summer’s collaboration with Liam Neeson as they re-imagined Van Morison’s On Hyndford Street for Hotpress magazine’s Youtube celebration of Van’s 75th. birthday.

Phil Robson is an award-winning jazz guitarist, bandleader and composer from Derby, UK. He has led many of his own ensembles over the years and has accompanied some of the biggest names in jazz including Barbara Striesand, Dame Cleo Laine, Django Bates and Donny McCaslin. He is a longtime partner and collaborator of Irish jazz singer, Christine Tobin.

Megan Nic Ruairí is a singer, songwriter and musician from Rann na Feirste. She released her brilliant debut single, Can’t Stand The Moon, earlier this year. Megan is also a member of the hugely popular Clann Mhic Ruairí band with whom she has toured widely throughout Ireland and overseas. For tonights’ special festival show, she will be joined by her regular four-piece band.
