Aislingí Dance Academy and Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company bring Frances Browne’s much loved childrens’ story to vibrant life through contemporary dance, storytelling, music, song and aerial performance.
Set long, long ago in the land of Stumpinghame, where big feet are the height of fashion, there is consternation in the King’s household when his youngest son is born with the tiniest of feet, so earning the nickname, Fairyfoot. Believing it to be a bad omen, the King sends the young boy to live with a shepherd, far away from the palace. And it’s there that Fairyfoot’s adventures truly begin!
The Tale of Fairyfoot is one of the best-loved stories from Stranorlar writer Frances Browne’s collection of fairytales for children, Granny’s Wonderful Chair, which was published in 1857.
Aislingí Dance Academy was formed in 2003 by Stranorlar choreographer and dance facilitator Tanya Ward. Performers from the Academy have been an integral part of Inishowen Carnival’s St. Patrick’s Festival Parade (Dublin) spectacles for many years. Aislingí dancers bring colour, energy and wonderful movement to many local festivals and events including Culture Night and the Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Carnival Parades in Ballyshannon.
Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company are Ireland’s first and foremost aerial performance company. Founded by Ballybofey choreographer and aerialist Chantal McCormick, they are based at the Irish Aerial Creation Centre in Limerick, from whence they tour the world with their spectacular productions. Fidget Feet also host the annual Irish Aerial Dance Festival (IADF) in Letterkenny. This year, a number Aislingí Academy dancers participated in IADF in preparation for their roles in The Tale of Fairyfoot.
Tanya Ward is a Donegal based dancer & choreographer, trained in ballet, contemporary and modern dance. Tanya established Aishlingí Academy in 2003 and it was the 1st performing arts company in Donegal, offering classes in dance, drama, music and art, helping to develop and nurture more than 20 of its students into working artistic professionals, participating musicals, national televised events, and performances for dignitaries.
