tick, tick…BOOM!

Before the revolutionary rock musical, Rent, writer and composer Jonathan Larson had another story to tell: his own.

tick, tick… BOOM! is a three-character musical about facing crossroads in life and holding onto your dreams. It tells the story of Jon, a promising composer feeling the pressure to be successful before his thirtieth birthday, just a week away. But his girlfriend Susan wants to get married and move out of the city (tick); his best friend Michael is making big bucks on Madison Avenue (tick); and Jon is still waiting tables and trying to write a hit musical before time, and life, passes him by (BOOM!).

Jonathan Larson was a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning composer best known for the musical Rent, the success of which he never got to see as he succumbed to a sudden heart attack less than 24 hours before the first Broadway performance of the show.

This semi-autobiographical musical is about the life of a young artist in New York City at the dawn of the 1990s, as the trials and tribulations of striving for greatness challenge his persistence and his personal relationships. Why pursue the dream if it could cost us everything?
